Ireland is a member country of the European Union, which occupies most of its namesake island. Its capital is Dublin, located east of the island. Also, the Irish Republic is in the highest positions in economic freedom, political and press. Today, Ireland is one of the founding countries of the Council of Europe and OECD. The country has a policy of neutrality and non-alignment and therefore is not a member of NATO, although it participates in the Partnership for Peace.
